About Us
Brighton Art Fair was set up by artists and printmakers Sarah Young and Tessa Walliman and administrators Jon Tutton and Phil Taylor in 2004. The first Brighton Art Fair saw capacity crowds visiting the event and rave reviews of the exhibitors.
Brighton Art Fair is now firmly established as a major annual event in the arts calendar of the South East. It is the largest art exhibition on the South Coast and brings together about 130 of the most talented national painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors along with artist groups and Sussex based galleries.
Around 5000 visitors from all over the UK visit Brighton Art Fair
each year. Many of the visitors enjoy talking and buying directly from
the artists themselves, learning more about their artwork, techniques
and interests. Every
visitor receives a catalogue detailing the exhibitors at the fair
which we hope encourages buyers to contact artists after the event to
buy or commission work and establish a longer term on-going
relationship.
Sales of artwork have been healthy for artists
exhibiting at BAF. Some sold thousands of pounds worth of
artwork whilst others gained major commissions for public
buildings or private clients. BAF directly targets art buyers, collectors, gallery owners, arts commissioners
and exhibition curators and many artists have been taken up by
galleries throughout England due to contacts made at the fair.
2006 saw the launch of the Brighton Craft Fair featuring the best makers and designers in the country. In 2008 Brighton Craft Fair is changing its name to MADE 08 - Brighton's Design and Craft Fair to reflect the cutting edge design skills of many of our present makers and to attract other designers.
